Meet Our Staff

In addition to world-class athletic facilities and programming, what distinguishes Chelsea Piers most is its superlative coaching staff. 


Felipe Barreto

Felipe is a former Physical Education teacher who went to become part of the Mexican National Squash team during the hard ball era. He moved to Germany where he was introduced to the soft ball. Having the privilege to learn from a former world champion, Ahmed Safwat from Egypt. Felipe spent almost a decade in Germany, playing and coaching, including a National Champion. On his return to Mexico, Felipe introduced the  soft ball, running his first squash training camp in 1985. He then became the National coach where he coach and mentor some of the best players in the country. his highlight is to have made the number one in the country, a former top 30 in the world and Pan-American champion. After much success, he went to become the President of the Mexican Squash Federation, expanding his knowledge throughout the country, creating from juniors to professional teams and sending them for the first time to compete overseas. He has taken squash seminars with world renown players as well as he has given back by preparing coaches, some of them still working in different countries. 

He had the pleasure of coaching kids who won the prestigious US Junior Open as well as a Pakistani player who won the World Junior Teams Championship.
