Resistance Training Has a Positive Effect  on Cognitive Function in Older Adults

Aging adults often experience declines in cognitive function over time. Some research suggests that exercise may slow those declines. A study in the journal Aging Clinical and Experimental Researchconducted a review of the evidence on resistance training and cognitive function, and included 12 studies in their analysis.

The results showed that exercise had a positive effect on overall cognition and executive function, which includes decision making. There was a small, weaker effect on memory, but no improvement in attention. The results also indicated that training three times a week was more effective for overall cognition than training twice a week.
