Kristen B.

Kristen B. 1st place female weight loss winner

19.1 lbs lost

How does it feel to have lost a significant amount of weight?

I went for a run this morning and was able to go so much farther and faster without the extra 19.1 pounds! I feel so much more confident. I'm wearing clothes that didn't used to fit and treating myself to new styles and outfits! I can run farther and faster and it's so fantastic! I also have so much more energy and I am so much better about being balanced with my workouts and eating habits. I feel so successful :)

Why did you decide to join the challenge?

I joined the challenge because I love a gimmick! Even if the prize was a sticker, I'm all in! And I had weight to lose and old habits to break and new ones to develop - and I'm so happy!

What did you do differently to achieve your results?  How did you stick with it?

I made a commitment to stick with exercising which I love and start eating like an adult which I don't love but am learning to. I've never been great about balance - I'm either all in or all out and now I'm working toward having balance each day and I'm so happy with the results!

What's next for you during this healthy lifestyle you have acquired?

I'm running in a half marathon in May. This will be my fifth half marathon (and I ran the full NYC marathon once) so it's not a new event for me, but it is new in that I am almost 20 pounds lighter and I feel so much better. Instead of getting through it, I'll enjoy it. Well...enjoy is strong, but I'll enjoy the process and training and will feel so good crossing the finish line :)

Courtney M. 2nd place female wight loss winner

16.4 lbs lost

How does it feel to have lost a significant amount of weight?

Feels amazing! Knowing I’m healthier inside and out makes every day brighter.

Why did you decide to join the challenge?

I wanted to join the challenge to complete my weight loss goals. I needed a final push to get my remaining 15 pounds off. I gained 75 pounds after having 2 kids and lost 60 of it over the 10 months after having my baby and needed these last 2 months to really focus and complete my goal.

What did you do differently to achieve your results?  How did you stick with it?

Ate less calories, a total of 1,000-1,200 per day, and increased my cardio days from 4 up to 6 during the challenge.

What's next for you during this healthy lifestyle you have acquired?

I have about 5 more pounds I would like to lose and have already lost 1.5. I want to maintain a healthy lifestyle and keep the weight off. And I want to start playing tennis and join the upcoming challenge to get stronger.

14.9 lbs lost

How does it feel to have lost a significant amount of weight?

Feels pretty good and I feel much healthier and lighter.

Why did you decide to join the challenge?

Something new and different. Also needed a challenge to motivate me. I was also given the “okay” from my physical therapist to work out again after having shoulder surgery.

What did you do differently to achieve your results?  How did you stick with it?

I had a low caloric diet and drank a gallon of water a day. I ate 5 times a day.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Two snacks break. Also, forced myself to go to the gym 5 times a week even when I felt tired but it was worth it. When I got cravings, I would eat 90% dark chocolate or nut mix.

What's next for you during this healthy lifestyle you have acquired?

My next goal is to lose an additional 30 pounds. One thing I will do differently is to do high intensity workouts more often.

Daniel S.

Daniel S. 2nd place male weight winner

36.4 lbs lost

How does it feel to have lost a significant amount of weight/gaining lean muscle mass?

Great, since my fitness journey started I don’t feel tired going up stairs or walking around, I can focus better at work, and I am not in pain anymore. My back and knees used to hurt before the weight loss. My energy overall is better and my ability to perform has increased in and out of the gym.

Why did you decide to join the challenge?

I am a competitive person. I knew joining I would have the motivation, the whole team dynamic and the ability to workout with other people. There was so much support during the challenge. Other members would text me making sure I showed up and came into the gym, saying “you better be here”.

What did you do differently to achieve your results?  How did you stick with it?

Chelsea Piers has great classes. Classes that are not only geared towards competitive high intensity athletes. They have kickboxing with Gerard and Zumba and other great workouts to incorporate into your regimen. There is SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. That allows you to WORK ON YOU.

What's next for you during this healthy lifestyle you have acquired?

I am going to continue what I already have been doing. My weight loss and fitness is not just a right now it will last for my lifetime. I look forward to the next challenge. I really enjoyed the stickers you got at the end of classes, it helped me see what I had accomplished and it made me want to go to class to get another one. Chelsea Piers is just a great place, with good support and great instructors. All you have to do is find the motivation to show up because there is something for everyone.

Jeff M.

Jeff M. 2nd place male lean muscle gained winner

8.4 lbs lean muscles gained

Why did you decide to join the challenge?

I always appreciate these challenges because they serve as motivating vehicles for me to reach for higher goals and experiment with different regiments. With this challenge I wasn't sure which goal to strive for, weight loss or muscle gain but after two weeks it became clear that muscle gain was what I was after.

What did you do differently to achieve your results? How did you stick with it?

I began to eat more clean calories, especially protein and leafy greens and lifted heavy enough weight where I was doing 4-6 reps of 5-6 sets and doing it safely. I also made sure to get 8-9 hours of sleep to help rebuild what I was tearing down in the gym. By God's grace, I gained more muscle than I thought possible, especially because there was a period of sickness during the last half of my challenge. It was further testimony to see God's strength in my weakness as my fellow contender and friend Erik Vanderkolk reminded me of.

What's next for you during this healthy lifestyle you have acquired?

I will work on decreasing my body fat percentage further while doing my best to maintain the muscle I've gained. Thank you to Monica and her team for yet another terrific challenge. It was exciting to see the results of not just the winners but the many contestants as well.
