If you haven’t tried Zumba before, now might be the time! One of the most popular Zumba instructors in Stamford, Shaira Cohen is joining the Chelsea Piers team. Her first class will be Saturday, July 7th at 8am.

Always one of the top attended group fitness classes at Chelsea Piers, Zumba features fun music and high energy instructors that make it feel more like a dance party than a workout. A 60 minute class, which emphasizes moving to the music and having a good time can burn an average of 369 calories.

We sat down with Shaira to learn more about her teaching style and what to expect from her class.

How long have you been teaching Zumba?

10 years

What drew you to Zumba? Why are you passionate about teaching it?

I was a fitness instructor prior and taught multiple classes including boot camp, aqua aerobics, chore fitness among other classes at different gyms. When Zumba became popular, I was asked to teach it and I agreed. I have always loved dancing and I feel that music is very therapeutic. Because I love dancing so much, I am very expressive and people gravitate to the feeling and emotion dancing brings.

Why did you join Chelsea Piers? What are you most excited about being an instructor here?

I joined Chelsea Piers because they believe in my work and welcomed me and my followers to their facility

I am most excited about meeting new clients and building a stronger and healthier community. I am also super excited to work in such clean, high end facility with most up to date amenities.

How would you describe the energy of your classes?

To the roof! The energy is contagious, it’s grand, it’s explosive and simply amazing. My classes make you want to give 100% of your efforts while experiencing the joy of dance and music. People who have a bad day or feel like they have low energy will come to my class and leave with a big smile and feeling like new.  Don’t like work out? What can people expect from your class?

People can expect to have a great time while accomplishing a high energy and high calorie burning class. The energy is positive and welcoming; expect to make good friends who will motivate you to keep active and healthy.

You can take Shaira’s Zumba Class on Mondays at 6:30pm and Saturday at 8:00am
